I recently came across all the information that is needed to help lose weight from weight watchers, i recieved the points counter and the booklet, But i was wondering, i am 5 foot 9 and i weigh190 i would like to lose 40-50 pounds, But i have no idea how many points in a day i can consume for my weight.. Weight watchers is based on calorie counting, so if you want to do that instead (since most food packets have the calories written on them):

Your body needs a certain amount of fuel (food) each day to stay alive and do any exercise/activities that you’re involved in. If you eat slightly less than this amount then your body will burn fat to make up the difference. If you eat way less than this amount, you’ll go into starvation mode and won’t lose anything.

Figure out how many calories you need to eat each day to lose weight, how many extra calories you burn through exercise, and how many calories are in the foods you eat. You can do all of that here:

How many weight watchers points are in a Mcdonald’s Southwest Salad?

Ok, had a grilled chicken Southwest salad from Mcdonald’s tonight for dinner. Had it with the dressing and the croutons. Does anyone know how many weight watchers points this is?

320 cals 9 fat and 10 fiber = 6 pts (salad)
60 cals 3 fat and 1 fiber= 1 pt (croutons)
100 cals 6 fat 0 fiber=3 pts (Newmans Southwest Dressing)

As for the comment made that you wouldn’t be eating at McDonalds if you were on weight watchers…well they don’t know the program. 10 pts isn’t bad if thats how you want to spend 10 points. You need to concentrate on doing intense cardio exercises (running, jogging, swimming). Although not possible to target the fat with any specific exercises, cardio will burn fat evenly throughout your entire body. Do 20-30 minutes every other day, as intense as you can do for that amount of time.

Doing this, along with a healthy diet, should be the easiest and fastest way to burn that fat.

Yes, that will certainly help. To lose weight you have to burn more calories than you consume. Weight loss is an overall process and there are no magic answers. Pay no attention to weight loss supplements and pills and all the latest fads. You need to think about many factors but most of them are related to issues we’ve known about for a very long time. There are many sensible things you can do that will make a tremendous difference over the long term if you need to lose weight. It can be done in a healthy way. This is what has worked for me.

Keeping a food journal really does help. It will give you a much better sense of how much you are eating, and when, and why.

Make a few additional small changes – walk everywhere, always use stairs instead of elevators, walk on escalators, get up and move around at least once an hour if your work or your life in general is sedentary, walk every day, use a pedometer. Walking 10,000 steps a day is a really good idea. Build up to a long brisk walk everyday, or most days. Be more active and watch less TV and spend less time on the computer. Buy one piece of exercise equipment to have at home and be strict with yourself about using it. Sometimes you can find mini-steppers or exercise bikes at second hand stores and thrift stores for just a few dollars.

Start a weight lifting routine. Join a gym. Possibly you can find one that has someone who specializes in weight lifting programs for beginners. Weight lifting will increase your metabolism as well as improve posture and appearance overall. Even if you can’t get to the gym you can work out at home using things around the house. Invest in a good weight training book. The Dummies series actually has a good one.

In terms of diet, cut out or reduce things like junk food, pop, fat, fast food. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish. Particularly if you choose a vegetarian lifestyle include natural peanut butter, hummus, dried fruit and nuts. Pay close attention to getting the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.

Make your portion sizes smaller. Use a smaller plate – in our society we have become accustomed to thinking that we need a large plate of food at every meal, and we don’t. About quarter of your plate of food should be protein and at least half of it should be veggies.

Learn to count calories. At your current weight and activity level, you may possibly need about 2000 calories or more to maintain your current weight. So you will lose weight at a reasonable and healthy rate if you cut back to about 1600 or 1700 calories a day.

Eat small amounts frequently, rather than three large meals. Never skip breakfast. Include some protein in your breakfast. It will help get you through the day.

Drink plenty of water, at least 8 big glasses of water a day, and more if it is very hot, if you sweat a lot, or if you are exercising intensely, and eliminate fruit juices. Fruit juices have too many calories, so get your vitamins from fresh fruit, not the juice. You will begin to see changes in your body.

Vary your routines. Don’t eat the same number of calories every day (vary your calories from 1400 a day to 1900 or 2000 some days), eat a variety of foods, and do different kinds and amounts of exercise. You will lose weight much more efficiently if you mix things up from time to time so that your body doesn’t adjust to any one routine.

An area that many people overlook is getting enough sleep. You are much more likely to overeat or to binge eat if you are tired and not well rested, so get enough sleep.

What’s the difference between men and women weight watchers?

I’m thinking about joining weight watchers to lose a few lbs. I’m a male, but I’m transgendered, and I want a more feminine figure, not a masculine figure. I already have wide hip bones, but my upper body fat is kind of a problem. Would choosing women weight watchers make a difference?

There is no man or woman weight watchers its for everyone. Men as a rule tend to lose more body fat quicker than females so I don’t know if that helps you out… you can always sit in on a meeting before you decide and talk to someone there to find out if their program is for you.

the answer is very obvious- don’t eat too much!!
think about it- the countries where people don’t stuff themselves with food, such as asia, the people are slim, and in perfect health

today, the society is all about food
we’re eating because the food tastes good, not because we’re hungry!
you see food ads on tv, magazines, everywhere!
food is everywhere, you cannot go anywhere without being offered food!
you need to learn to resist the temptations.

back in the older days, you didn’t eat everyday! you ate when you hunted and caught food!

you would be perfectly fine not eating for a day, it’s actually good for you because it cleanses out your body!! all that getting a minumum of at least 1500 calories a day is BS!! you can survive perfectly fine on just 500 calories consumed from HEALTHY food. Sure, you’ll have an uncontrollable desire to eat, but trust me, you’ll LIVE.

and all this diet crap is aimed at overweight consumers. the media suggests that anorexia is bad, all these models are dying blablahblah..that’s all just to make the normal obese american feel better!! i mean, how often do they show people dying from being overweight???

there’s really no need to eat junk food either. it’s a waste of money, and all it does is make you fat!! think about it. twinkies and soda and chips don’t fill you up, they just taste good, which makes you want to eat more!

look at the skinny people nowadays. they don’t constantly crave for icecream or stuff themselves with food whenever they see it.
